Linked Inputs

Building complex ROI calculations often requires reusing values from one calculation as inputs to another. Rather than manually entering the same data multiple times and risking inconsistencies, Linked Inputs automatically synchronize values between calculations, ensuring your business case stays accurate as you make changes. Linked Inputs connect an input in a calculation to a “primary subtotal” from a non-monetary calculation. When the source calculation changes, all linked inputs update automatically in real-time.

Adding a Linked Calculation to your Business Case

When you add a use case into your business case, you’ll see calculations that are connected to each other through source and recipient icons, making it clear which calculations depend on others. As soon as a use case is added to a business case, linked inputs are easy to spot:
  • They display a “Linked” indicator with a recipient icon
  • The indicator shows the distribution percentage if there are several linked inputs
  • Linked inputs cannot be manually edited - they update automatically when you change the source calculation.
Managing Distribution When multiple inputs link to the same primary subtotal, users can view and adjust how the total value is distributed: Single Linked Input
  • Receives 100% of the primary subtotal value
  • Click the “Linked” indicator to disconnect from the source calculation if needed - it will turn the input into a default one, disable automatic updates and allow changes
Multiple Linked Inputs
  • Each input receives a percentage of the primary subtotal value
  • All percentages must add up to 100% (There is 0.01% tolerance in case you have some float numbers)
  • Click the “Linked” indicator to open the distribution modal
  • Adjust percentages to control how the value is split
  • Click “Unlink All” button to turn all linked inputs into default ones
User roles
  • Editors can see linked inputs and change their distribution
  • Commenters and External viewers can see “Linked” indicators and tooltips, but would not be able to change the distribution or unlink inputs
  • In the presentation mode, you can see “Linked” indicators, but can’t click them to change the distribution or unlink
The power of linked inputs becomes clear when you modify your calculations: Source Calculation Changes: When you update any input in the calculation containing the primary subtotal, all linked inputs update automatically Real-time Synchronization: Changes propagate instantly across your entire business case Consistent Data: No more worrying about manually updating multiple places when one value changes Automatic Distribution: If you have multiple linked inputs, each receives its designated percentage of the new value Orphaned Links: If a primary subtotal is deleted, linked inputs are automatically unlinked

For Admins: Setting Up Linked Inputs in Your Value Framework

Creating Primary Subtotals When building calculations in your Value Framework:
  1. Create a non-monetary calculation with a primary subtotal. There will be one primary subtotal by default.
  2. In other calculations within that use case, click “Link a calculation” to link inputs to existing primary subtotals
Best Practices for Value Framework Design Use for Shared Metrics: Let’s say your platform saves reps time building business cases, and they use that time for closing more deals. You could build a non-monetary calculation for 10hrs saved per month and link that to a Revenue Uplift calculation for additional won deals per month. When you adjust the time savings in the first calculation, the revenue impact updates automatically. Clear Naming: Use descriptive names for primary subtotals so users understand what they represent
